We’ve sailed just 173 miles since our last post from Mazatlan. It’s been easy going, apart from having to dodge whales and avoid fishermen’s “long lines.” (These nasty contraptions are mile-long offshore fishing lines suspended along the surface with hard-to-see floats. Avoiding them is as stressful as it sounds).
We’re now in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, on the north end of Banderas Bay. La Cruz (as everyone calls it) is a small town that’s close enough (but not too close) to the conveniences of Puerto Vallarta. Its large anchorage, quiet atmosphere, serious charm, and gringo-friendliness have made this a long-time cruiser hangout. Even new cruisers like us have plenty of friends in town, as we re-connect with boats we’ve met coming down the coast. We wanted to reach La Cruz in time for the holidays so we could have some sense of community for our first Christmas away from Wisconsin.
We’ll be here for a couple weeks while we work on boat projects and use La Cruz as a jumping-off point to explore the sights on land and the anchorages around Banderas Bay.
But, let’s cut to the… Chase! And the Guinnivere!
This is a little embarrassing to admit, but I’ve taken a lot of cat photos. Some you’ve seen in earlier posts or on Instagram (@ParticularHarbor), but most have been hidden on my Google Pixel.
So, while everyone is relaxing by the fire, finishing off the Christmas cookies and re-energizing for 2018, here’s our latest contribution of cat photos to the Internet.
We’ll be back with a new post next week, when we celebrate three months of cruising.
Now, onto the main event. Welcome to… Paw-ticular Harbor 😉
“It’s breakfast time!! Feed me! Feed me now! How dare you make me wait 12 hours since my last meal!”
“I mean, please feed me. I’m so sorry I was crying and woke you up at 5 am. I can’t tell time. Remember how sweet I am?”
Now that breakfast is out of the way, the cats wait for us to open the companionway so they can watch birds and sit in the sunshine. Birds were especially chatty this morning, and the cats were rapt.
“Okay, that was fun. Better head back inside for my first nap of the day.”
“Oh, are you humans trying to change the sheets where we’re napping? Come back later.”
“Time to set sail! Let’s visit the humans in the cockpit. They don’t look busy at all. Stop navigating and start petting!”
“Petting?! Get out the Fur-minator! I want brushing!” (Post-brushing, Chase’s purr motor slows to idle while he drifts in and out of sleep.)
“Okay, enough with the humans, we’re going inside to share this step (sort of).”
“I win! I outlasted my brother Chase and now I have the whole step to myself. Time for a nap.”
“Ugh, my sister totally pushed me off that step so she could have it to herself. I guess I’ll lay down here on this fancy desk…”
“…zzzzzzz…”
“What a passage! Here we are in the middle of nowhere. Peace and quiet. Beautiful surroundings. I sure do love sitting under this dodger, watching fish and manta rays. Now get that camera out of my face and give me some more pets!”

My favorite post to date! Sending cat nip dreams and head rubs to Sir Chase and Lady G!
The cats miss you! We’ll give them some extra pets today for you!
I’ve enjoyed all your posts but as a cat lover, I really enjoyed this one. You have two amazing cats! Might you be contemplating a children’s book on Sir Chase and Lady G?
Thanks Bobette! We hadn’t considered writing The Sea Stories of Sir Chase and Lady G, but maybe we should 🤔
Love your blog!! I work with your sister, J, and just living vicariously through you guys while at the office! 🙂 My partner and I just came from La Cruz and finished the Baja Bash on Sunday…brutal! Wish you fair winds – will be following your adventure!
That’s awesome! Thanks for commenting! Sorry we didn’t get to meet in Cabo… it was fun hearing about your plans from Jennifer, and hopefully we’ll see you out cruising someday 🙂
