In March we commissioned Aegea for the season and celebrated with a weekend cruise to Point Richmond.
Point Richmond is in the Northeast corner of San Francisco Bay. It’s an unexpected destination — a forested enclave separated from industrial Richmond by a railyard, a freeway, and a commercial harbor.
On Friday night, we took a berth at the Richmond Yacht Club. The next morning, we laced up our running shoes and ran into downtown Point Richmond for coffee and sightseeing. Outside the coffee shop, neighbors said “hello,” dogs waited patiently for humans, and we enjoyed our espresso.
Saturday afternoon we toured the Red Oak Victory. During World War II, the Kaiser Shipyards (where Red Oak was built) built 1,490 ships. By the end of the war, they could complete a 455-foot Victory ship in just 59 days.
